5 Questions: Matt Collins-Jones

1. What do you like best about your job?

I love variety. No two days are ever the same, no two projects, two customers; it’s always changing and evolving, just like Microsoft Dynamics and the Power Platform. One of the best parts of my job is training, either internally to my colleagues or externally to customers or the wider community. I love teaching people new features, new ways to work, new ways to think. When you are training people, trying to bring together multiple strands and it all suddenly makes sense to them, you see this spark in their eyes, the excitement they have about what you are teaching them; that makes me really happy.

2. What are the biggest professional challenges you face and how does ClickDimensions help you address those challenges?

As a Senior D365 CE Consultant for a Microsoft Partner, I must stay up to date with D365, Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Azureā€¦the list feels endless. With the platform changing all the time, it’s a constant learning curve for me. When a customer asks me about marketing, that’s always an easy question to answer, as ClickDimensions is our preferred marketing solution. The solution is constantly updated with more features and ClickDimensions offers fantastic support from people who are dedicated to and knowledgeable about marketing. As someone who is not a marketer, it’s a relief that I don’t have to worry about how the latest trends affect campaigns and marketing, as I know my customers are in safe hands with ClickDimensions.

3. What was your background before landing in your current role?

I originally started at an end user of Dynamics CRM 4.0 (on premise) as a support desk technician. We used CRM internally for customer service, sales and marketing, but we didn’t have access to any resources to make changes to the system. Over the next few years I was tasked with making changes and enhancements, handling upgrades, etc. all as an extra part of my day job with no training. One day, my then manager mentioned to me that you could get a job doing Dynamics CRM. Within a week I had updated my CV and had a couple of interviews lined up and went from doing CRM in my spare time to making a career out of it.

4. What personality trait do you most admire?

Confidence when talking to people. There are some people you talk to and you can just see how confident they are and how effortless it looks. You spend five minutes speaking to them and it’s like you’ve known them your whole life with how the conversation flows.

5. If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be and why?

A cat. Always a cat. You can sleep all day long, stay out all night, destroy anything, do whatever you want and your owners will still love you unconditionally. I’m jealous of my cat.
