Big news in the world of digital marketing

Internet ad sales surpass broadcast TV for the first time

U.S. interactive advertising revenues hit an all-time high of $42.8 billion in 2013, exceeding broadcast television advertising revenues ($40.1 billion) for the first time ever, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). Released last week, other highlights in the Internet Advertising Revenue Report include:

  • Search revenues totaled $18.4 billion in 2013, up 9% from 2012, when search totaled $16.9 billion.
  • For the third year in a row, mobile achieved triple-digit growth year-over-year, hitting $7.1 billion in 2013. Mobile accounted for 17% of 2013 revenues, whereas it was 9% of revenues in 2012.
  • Retail advertisers continue to represent the largest category of internet ad spending, responsible for 21% in 2013, followed by financial services and automotive which account for 13% and 12% respectively.

These numbers don't come entirely as a surprise given the amount of time people are not only spending online, but also on their mobile devices. And as users of ClickDimensions know first-hand, interacting with customers online enables companies to customize and target their marketing message in ways that traditional media cannot.

Are you spending more advertising dollars online? If so, make sure you capture those leads in CRM with ClickDimensions landing pages and forms. And gain intelligence from your paid search clicks through URL tagging (click here to read how).
