Even if you’re a marketer based outside of the EU, the GDPR will have implications for marketing programs across the globe. Over the next few months, you will be hearing more from us on the steps we’re taking to ensure our compliance with the regulation and tips to help you use ClickDimensions to more efficiently manage your compliance.
For now, let’s start things off with a quick Frequently Asked Questions post to set the stage. Then stay tuned in the weeks ahead to learn more about ClickDimensions features that can assist you with your GDPR compliance as well as enhancements we’re making to our products to strengthen consumer privacy.
Note: This blog post is intended to provide an overview of the GDPR, as well as the roles and responsibilities of ClickDimensions and our customers under the GDPR. That said, this post is not legal advice. We suggest you consult an attorney to understand how the GDPR affects your company and how to ensure your compliance.
What is the GDPR?
The General Data Protection Regulation (or GDPR) is a new regulation in the European Union that aims to provide a single set of rules to strengthen data protection and privacy for EU residents. It imposes a wide range of new regulations on organizations who collect or process the personal data of EU residents. It also imposes harsh penalties for violation or non-compliance.
Who does the GDPR apply to?
The GDPR applies to any organization who collects or processes the personal data of EU residents regardless of where that organization is located or where the data is stored. In short, if you have even a single contact in your marketing database who resides in the EU, you’re on the hook.
When is the deadline for GDPR compliance?
The deadline for GDPR compliance is May 25, 2018.
What is ClickDimensions’ role in its customers’ GDPR compliance?
For purposes of providing our services to our customers, ClickDimensions is a data processor under the GDPR and will be required to meet all requirements imposed on data processors under the regulation. Our customers are considered data controllers and are responsible for their compliance with the law. And, finally, we are also considered to be a data controller when we market to our own customers and prospects, and we will ensure our own marketing practices meet the requirements.
What are ClickDimensions’ responsibilities under the GDPR?
Our primary responsibilities as a data processor are to ensure that our operating policies and practices, and our product and platform adhere to GDPR requirements. Also, we are working hard to offer our customers features that help them in their efforts to be GDPR compliant. While this isn’t a requirement of the GDPR and the technology itself can’t ensure your compliance, we are committed to providing the best marketing platform for Microsoft Dynamics 365. Part of that commitment is providing tools that make it easier and more efficient for our customers to manage their compliance with privacy directives and legislation such as the GDPR.
Can ClickDimensions help its customers become GDPR compliant?
We are dedicated to providing features and functionality in our products that make it easier for our customers to adhere to GDPR requirements, but ultimately compliance is up to each company. We are focused on meeting all GDPR requirements imposed on us as a data processor. At this time, ClickDimensions does not offer any specific GDPR compliance services. We recommend that our customers seek legal counsel, and we are also happy to make introductions to ClickDimensions partners who specialize in GDPR compliance.
Will ClickDimensions be GDPR compliant by the May 25 deadline?
Yes. ClickDimensions has been working on enhancements to our policies, processes and product for the purposes of being fully compliant as both a data processor and a data controller under the GDPR. We will be ready!
If you have a question about ClickDimensions’ compliance with GDPR or other privacy regulations, who should you contact?
