Gated content is one of the most powerful marketing tools you can use today. A common lead generation tactic, gating content involves requiring some kind of sign up information on a web form in exchange for access to valuable content.
ClickDimensions makes setting up gated content quick and easy. All you need is a ClickDimensions web form and the content you will be using to entice conversions on that form. Then follow these three simple steps:
Step 1: Start by creating a ClickDimensions web form (the below image is an example of a form we have embedded on our website). As you develop your form, be mindful of the questions you are asking. Asking for too much information or sensitive information can lead to a low level of conversions, so it's often best to stick with the basics.
Step 2: Decide how you want the customer to receive your content. You have a few different options on how to accomplish this:
- Upon a successful submission, have the form redirect to a web page that contains a link to the download.
- Set up an auto responder to be sent upon successful completion of the form. You would have the form's confirmation text state that they will be receiving an email shortly with a link to download the content.
- If you wish to redirect directly to the download, you can provide a link to an online location for the file and, upon submission, the file will begin to download immediately. Please note this option could be off-putting to some users and may not work with all file types.
In this post, we are using the auto responder option (option b). The email below is what I received when I downloaded our eBook, The Marketing Automation Field Guide: Getting Started with Marketing Automation for Dynamics CRM. Because the form above captured some of my basic information, the email can use personalization to address me by name.
Step 3: Embed the form on your website or a landing page. Leads and customers can now download your content, and in return you get valuable information that you can use to market to them again in the future.
